Kutani-Yaki Japanese Tea Set Cups

This model is made with a very raw look, you can see the unglazed bottom and it's clay color show up. The upper part is painted with a brush all around with white, gray and black speckles. The painting shows 2 birds in a branch, the insides are also painted. Very organic look.

These are Mino-yaki ceramics (美濃焼), which means they’re from the Tono area of Gifu prefecture. The paints are a mixture of metallic components such as iron, copper, cobalt, or manganese with soda or charcoal. After the delicate lines are drawn, the pieces are sent to firing between 700 and 800℃ (about 1292 to 1472℉), which is lower than the glost firing to prevent colors from scattering.
